PreLEX - Presbyopic Lens Replacements

For patients who need bifocals, LASIK or PRK may not always be Dr. Yankelove's recommended procedure. Those who are not ideal candidates or who wish to restore the loss of reading vision often associated with age, now have more treatment options than ever before. Prelex is a lens implant vision correction treatment that corrects vision for distance, intermediate and near, using advanced technology Lens implants.

Presbyopic Lens Replacement, otherwise known as Prelex, is performed by Dr. Yankelove in a manner similar to the successful techniques used for modern cataract treatments. The main difference between a Cataract treatment and Prelex is that Cataract surgery is primarily performed to treat a patients' cloudy natural lens that is obstructing their vision, while Prelex is performed to minimize a person's dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

Unlike our laser vision correction procedures, which alters the shape of the cornea, Prelex changes the focusing power of the lens within the eye. For this treatment, the eye's natural lens is delicately replaced by an artificial lens implant which has been selected to improve clear focusing ability. This lens remains within the eye, and patients who have Prelex will not require cataract surgery in the future.
